I have a Dunkirk Quantum 90-100 boiler that will not ignite. It goes through the purge cycle, and the igniter glows orange, then the valve and flame light flash on and off again very quickly, then it starts the cycle again. Is the valve sticking? or the flame sensor bad, or the control board? What do I need to replace to get this thing working?

Inert Gas Purging Requirement Calculation

Where P is in atm and n is number of cycle. The quantity of inert gas required for each cycle is P-1 vessel volumes. Let say, you want to purge a vessel from 21%-mole oxygen to 1%-mole oxygen. You use inert gas to pressure to 5 atm. Guess number of cycle. We guess 2 cycles for started. (1-P) n = (1/5) 2 = 0.04; 0.04 x 21%-mole = 0.84%-mole. The

If the demand goes below the burner's minimum turndown, the boiler will cycle off until there's more demand. This results in the system cycling on, running for a brief period and then cycling off again. Every time this happens, the boiler must go through a pre-purge, a firing interval and then a post-purge.

How to Purge Air from a Hot Water Boiler |

The bucket needs to be in position and ready as soon as you begin to purge your boiler as you do not know exactly when the water will start coming out. As soon as the hissing stops the water is going to start coming out of your valve. The bucket will allow you to catch the water without flooding the area.

Boilers must run a purge cycle at the start of each on-cycle to assure that there is no accumulation of explosive gases in the fire box. By Code, enough air must be blown through the boiler to perform a 4x air exchange of the fire box. This cold air also removes heat from the boiler.

Stop Wasting Money, Reduce Boiler Cycling - WC Rouse

Every time a boiler cycles, it must go through a pre-purge cycle and a post-purge cycle, to ensure the combustion chamber is free of unburn fuel from the previous cycle. This is a good way to help ensure safety, but every time air is moved through a hot boiler, it carries heat up the stack.

A purge timer 26 may be activated when the blower motor is energized or shortly thereafter to allow time for the blower to reach full speed. After a fixed interval, thirty seconds for example, the purge timer generates a signal to drive the damper to its low fire or light off position, ending the purge cycle.
